I think there is still a lot of space to innovate. maybe frost giant will carry the blizzard rts spirit! On another note i liked what BHG did with rise of nations. for sc3 i would have hoped blizz take more risks like what they did from war2 to 3. and added night and day, and extra race, creeps, heroes, xp, items etc(which spawned a new genre with its custom maps), then sc2 went back to traditional sc, 3 races, same population cap, very similar mechanics, just increased selection limit and multiple buildings. war2 introduced max 9 unit selection(or was it 8?), starcraft 1 added a new race and turned into space, war3 was the biggest departure from traditional rts. then you first had war1 with max 4 units selection. Very interesting thoughts!
